Time & Time wasters – Avoid them

Time, It’s the one thing that keeps moving, no matter what we do.
There are so many things we value these days, and, because we live in a show off world, money is always seen as the most important thing. But, there is actually something much more important that money, and that is time. This is something you can never get back once it is gone, and it’s the one thing that can’t be stopped or reversed. The reason money is some important is because it allows you more conveniences, which, free up more time.

Time waits for no one. You can’t stop time or slow it, and it’s going to keep going whether you want it to or not. Because time won’t wait for you, because every day we lose some of it. You must make sure you do what you can to capture every opportunity and make the most of your time as much as you can. All areas of your life is governed by time, so stop waiting around for things to happen to you, make it happen by investing your time wisely and smartly.

A lot of people say that everyone has the same 24 hours in a day, so no one can complain about not having time for the things they want to do. The reality is that while everyone does technically have 24 hours a day, the amount of free time they have is different. Some people have good jobs that have normal working hours that can spend a good amount of time on other life activities, Others have to work many more hours to earn the same amount can’t have the same amount of free time. In that sense, even though they both have 24 hours in a day, time is relative for them.

The good thing is, you can buy yourself some more time , I am sure you are wasting a lot of it and you know it. You must rethink some of your time wasting habits.

TRAFFIC & TRANSPORTATION

The average worker spends 45 minutes commuting. That’s why people who live closer to work are happier. One of the solutions for this would be to move closer to work, but if that’s not possible, see if you can shift the time of your work to avoid peak traffic periods. In addition, if you still stuck in traffic, utilize your time wisely through reading, listen to audio book or podcast to develop a particular skill or enhance your knowledge.

SOCIAL MEDIA

The average person spends roughly 145 minutes a day on Social media. There is no recommended time for using social media on daily basis but the recommendation here is to take some time to evaluate just how much time you’re spending on these social media platforms, and how much value they really add to your day, your goals and your life overall.

ENTERTAINMENT

We all enjoy a good timeout experience watching our favorite TV series or movies, but television & Digital TV is one thing that is talking a lot of time, and most of the time, you don’t feel it, episode after episode…and you find yourself finishing one season in one seating. Have the disciple to have so fun but limit it wisely.

NOT FIXING YOUR MORNING AND EVENING ROUTINES

Morning routine helps us set the tone for the day and prime it, allowing us to control our schedules rather than our schedule controlling us. As we start each day fresh, we can better focus on what is in front of us, where to prioritise our time, and, increase our productivity.

Having an evening routine allows you to the time and space to physically and mentally decompress after a long day and set things for the next day to come, so you wake up know exactly what you will do and what you want to achieve.

Leaving your morning and evening time without a fixed routine, is a huge waste of time…you must fix it and stick to it.

NOT SAYING “NO” TO PEOPLE & THINGS

It’s very easy to say “yes.” We all want to be helpful as we are social animals and looking for pleasing people, not with a bad meaning. Sometimes, as much as you want to, you cannot afford to take on someone else’s task, appointment or invitation. Say “no” when you can (not aligned with your goals and priorities), and pay yourself in time.

MICRO-MANAGING EVERYTHING

We often do things we don’t need to out of pure habit or a need for control everything when someone else could get it done just as well easily. Let go of such things, and you will gain some space in your schedule by delegating these things.

WHEN YOU DON’T MEASURE TIME

Give yourself reasonable time limits to complete specific tasks. By doing this, you won’t be hoovering on other things while doing this particular task. It’s easy to lose track of how much time you’re spending on something when your mind is wondering elsewhere. Use time limits to maximize your efficiency and productivity

EMAILS

A lot of the working day is spent fielding constant emails. Not every 5 minutes you do refresh your emails and check them. Create an email checking schedule only 2 to 3 times a day and stick to it.

MEETINGS

Work meetings specifically, must be held and based on strict timeline and focused agenda with objectives, otherwise, work meetings can be one of the top time wasters if not managed properly.
