Stop Making Excuses

Excuses are the tools of the weak and incompetent. Used to build monuments of nothingness. Those who excel in it seldom excel in anything else but excuses.

You must know that making excuses is normal for humans – we are social people, and we care what others think about us. Rather than face uncomfortable conversations and feelings, we make excuses and avoid responsibility.
People who make excuses may feel happy in the moment, because they’ve avoided a bit of pain through the fit in approach. But In the long-term they will be less fulfilled and can feel depressed.

Why people make excuses? And how can you stop making excuses?

WHY DO PEOPLE MAKE EXCUSES?

The top 3 reasons for people making excuses are: Fear, uncertainty, or lack of purpose. To stop making excuses, you must find out which one applies to you.
1. FEAR
Fear is the top one emotion, that pushes you to make excuses. Fear can come in many forms. Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of embarrassment, fear of responsibility and much more. It isn’t easy to stop making excuses and face your fears, but it can be done.
2. UNCERTAINTY
One of our most powerful needs in life is certainty, we strive to avoid pain and seek out things that we know will bring us pleasure, which means staying in our comfort zone. This need drives our decision. Once you try to get out of your comfort zone and the uncertainty pops up, our brains prefer making excuses over dealing with uncertainty. But you can override these impulses and stop making excuses.
3. NO PURPOSE
One more reason for making excuses can be linked to being lazy or uninspired. And this can be a reason that you haven’t yet discovered your purpose. Focus on finding your passion and naturally you will stop making excuses.

HOW TO STOP MAKING EXCUSES ?

1. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
Start by taking control of your life. No matter what has happened in the past, your future is up to you, your choices, and your actions.
2. SHIFT YOUR PERSPECTIVE
Look at problems as opportunities, not obstacles.
3. IDENTIFY YOUR LIMITING BELIEFS & ELIMINATE THEM

People who make excuses likely have certain limiting beliefs that are holding them back. These are the stories we tell ourselves about who we are. If you believe deep down that you’re not deserving of success or that you don’t have the inner strength to overcome failure, you’ll continue making excuses to avoid going after what you really want.

4. CHANGE YOUR INNER STORY
After identifying your limiting beliefs, you can change your story and stop making excuses. Identify your negative self-talk and replace them with empowering ones.
